UNODC Youth Initiative aims to connect young people from around the globe and empower them to become active in their schools, communities and youth groups for substance use prevention and health promotion. It provides a platform for youth to share their experiences, ideas and creativity, and to get support for creating their own substance use prevention and health promotion activities.

The United Nations is committed to empowering youth and ensuring youth engagement at all levels. In the context of substance use prevention, Youth Initiative provides youth with possibilities to participate and become an active member of community of young people committed to support the health and wellbeing of their peers. Every year UNODC awards grants to youth organizations in low and middle income countries thanks to the generous donation by the Drug Abuse Prevention Center (DAPC) in Japan. These grants are mobilizing  young to make Youth Initiative a reality in their schools and communities . This is truly from youth, to youth, and for youth!

Since 2013 UNODC has organized a Youth Forum in the context of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) to exchange ideas and visions of youth on substance use prevention and health promotion and present them to the delegates of the CND.
