Promotion of Regional and International Cooperation in Drug control (I53)
Substantive information:
This project coordinates initiatives with ECO-DCCU and it supports Iranian drug enforcement authorities in further promoting regional and international cooperation based on: (i) the recommendations of the Paris Pact Round Table on the I.R. of Iran of 15 October 2003; (ii) the outcomes of the Paris Pact Policy Group Consultative Meeting of 12 October 2004; and (iii) the priorities for cooperation identified in Tehran on 21 November 2004 during the Round Table "Drug Trafficking: A Global Threat and the Importance of International Partnership. The Drug Control Situation in the I.R. of Iran and the Need for International Cooperation". This project also contributes to put in motion relevant recommendations of the Paris Pact border assessment mission to key border sites in Iran (11-23 August 2005), and the second Paris Pact Expert Round Table for Iran (Tehran, 13-14 September 2005).
Project Summary:
This project will support Iranian drug enforcement authorities in promoting regional and international cooperation based on the outcomes of the Paris Pact consultative mechanism, in particular the recommendations of the "Paris Pact Expert Round Table for I.R. Iran" held in Tehran on 13-14 September 2005. This project will promote cooperation frameworks and support the launching of regional initiatives in the Persian Gulf, Caspian Sea and Caucasus regions. The project activities will include the development of regional Memoranda of Understanding in drug control or the implementation of existing ones, the promotion of regional agreements, the organization and implementation of regional training workshops and seminars, as well as the design of action oriented regional project proposals to be developed through active consultations and negotiation with interested countries and the Donors Community.
