About Us
UNODC office in the Islamic Republic of Iran was established in 1999 to enhance coordination and provide support services for cooperation between UNODC and the Government of Iran to implement drug and crime programme/projects in the country.
The UNODC country office is headed by the UNODC Representative who in coordination with UNODC Vienna Headquarters undertakes the following functions:
Promotion of UNODC programme/projects at country level
Development of a strategic framework for cooperation, including formulation of an annual work programme through direct consultations with Government of Iran.
Supporting and monitoring the implementation of UNODC programme and projects in the country.
Managing the office and its resources, as well as interacting with the UNODC offices in the region and worldwide.
The work of the Office is divided into three main areas: a) Drug Supply Reduction/Law Enforcement b) Drug Demand Reduction, and c) Rule of Law.
In 2005, and upon completion of part of the NOROUZ programme, UNODC Iran drafted the new Strategic Programme Framework for Iran (2006-2008), which composes of a set of projects covering a wide range of issues in drug control and crime prevention/rule of law
Since beginning of its work, UNODC Iran was involved in the implementation of NOROUZ (NarcOtic ReductiOn UnitiZed programme for Iran) programme which was composed of four different projects:
CIRUS (Combined InteRdiction Unified Strategy for Iran)
DARIUS (Drug Abuse Research and Intervention Unified Strategy)
