UNODC ROSA office, under the UN.GIFT initiated Public Private Partnership, has been working in close collaboration with the civil society partners to build their capacity to access private sector support for their Anti Human Trafficking (AHT) work. UNODC has also simultaneously reached out to different corporate sector groups to inform them about AHT and to link them up with civil society partners, whom they can collaborate with, in supporting projects, aimed at prevention and rehabilitation aspects of human trafficking.
In order to take forward the above agenda, a training program was organized for Action against Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children (ATSEC) partners from Eastern India in Kolkata, West Bengal, on - Building Public Private Partnership. The resource persons for the training were Mr. R. Balasubramanium from Vivekanada Youth Movement, Ms. Kanchan Sai Krishnan from International Organization for Migration, Mr. Anindit Roy Choudhury from Sanlaap , Ms. Nandita Baruah from UNODC and Ms. Gargi Mitra from Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).The training was attended by 16 ATSEC partners from North Eastern and Eastern India.
Following were the significant achievements of the training program:
• The NGO partners, during the course of the training, identified activities from their ongoing projects that can attract corporate funding and how can these be presented to the corporate to attract support.
• Partners were made to identify aspects of their ongoing programs that needed modifications / additions to the process or/and the desired outcome of the activity, in order to make a pitch for a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
• An interaction with the Deputy Director of CII was arranged for the participants to share the NGOs work and to identify possible avenues for collaboration with those corporate groups, which are members of CII.
• Each NGO, as a next step, has been asked to prepare a couple of projects that will be reviewed by UNODC and the ATSEC Secretariat and then developed into a business plan by the group with the clear objective of marketing the same to the corporate sector.
• CII has agreed to convene the meetings of corporate partners, where the short-listed business plans can be shared for soliciting collaboration and support.
